Bio

Travis Deverell, better known by his pen name Shirtaloon, is an Australian author celebrated for his LitRPG series He Who Fights With Monsters. His journey into writing began during his mid-thirties while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Tasmania, where he combined studies in creative writing and media.

Initially, Deverell started writing as a diversion from academic work, seeking to create something humorous and entertaining. He began serializing his stories on platforms like Royal Road, where they quickly gained popularity. This success led him to launch a Patreon, and eventually, he published his work on Amazon, where his novels have consistently ranked highly on Kindle and Audible charts.

The He Who Fights With Monsters series follows Jason Asano, an ordinary man thrust into a fantastical world filled with magic and danger. The narrative blends elements of high fantasy, adventure, and humor, resonating with a wide audience and earning critical acclaim.

Deverell's unique pen name, "Shirtaloon," originated from his earlier online alias "Pantaloon." When "Pantaloon" was unavailable on certain platforms, he adopted "Shirtaloon" as a playful alternative.

The greatest martial arts trainer my world ever produced was asked by one of his students why he showed mercy to an enemy. He said that for a person with no forgiveness in their heart, living is a worse punishment than death. “Mercy is leaving the roots of trouble to grow back stronger.” “Mercy can seem like foolishness, and perhaps it is. But it’s also the hope for tomorrow. Ruthlessness will never turn an enemy into a friend. It leaves only barren ground—in the world and in your soul. I’ve seen that in a half-dozen years of having power, so you must have seen it over and over.”
