Plyometric exercise

What is Plyometric Exercise?

Plyometric exercise, also known as "jump training" or "plyos," involves explosive movements designed to increase power, strength, and speed. These exercises typically involve a rapid stretching of the muscle (eccentric phase) followed by a powerful contraction (concentric phase). Plyometric exercises are commonly used in athletic training to improve performance in activities that require quick, explosive movements.

Examples of plyometric exercises include:

  • Jump squats
  • Box jumps
  • Burpees
  • Clap push-ups
  • Lateral jumps

Plyometric training can be highly effective for enhancing athletic performance but should be approached with caution, especially for beginners. Proper technique and adequate warm-up are essential to prevent injury. It's also advisable to consult with a fitness professional before starting a plyometric exercise program.
